Welcome to our travel blog Boots on the Move.
We are Oscar and Marjolein, married since 2021 and living in Leiden. Together we share a passion for travel, adventure and everything that comes with it. The name Boots on the Move refers to the ways we prefer to travel: with our riding 'boots' on the motorcycle or with our hiking 'boots' during our travels. We enjoy every kilometer and all the stories we collect along the way.
OSCAR
Since I was a child I have been experimenting with photography and photo editing.
After borrowing a friend's DSLR camera for a weekend, I discovered that better equipment offers even more possibilities. I immediately bought a (second-hand) DSLR camera with two lenses. During the first few holidays, this camera served us faithfully. But I soon discovered that it was too bulky and heavy to carry around all the time. That was the moment I decided to switch to a mirrorless camera with a flat pancake lens. I have become so familiar with this by now that this is my go-to combination*.
The passion for motorcycles also started at a young age.
It started with a minibike, then a scooter at 16. At 18 I got my 'real' motorcycle license. In the meantime, two motorcycles later, I make my motorcycle rides and trips on an Aprillia Shiver 900 (2019). Together with Marjolein I also have a Suzuki SV650 N (2002) as a trackbike. To enjoy speed in a safe way, we book a trackday a couple times a year.
I work as an account manager in the motorcycle industry. So I am also 'on the move' a lot in my work.
*My current setup is: Canon EOS M50 Mark I camera with a Canon EFM 22mm F/2 STM lens + K&F Concept polarizing filter.
MARJOLEIN
I have made my work my passion.
In my daily life I work as a content marketer. I apply the skills I develop there in this travel blog to bring our travel adventures to life. In addition to the useful tips, I also like to share some funny moments. This way we ourselves continue to read our stories with a smile. In the blogs I include our encounters with fellow travelers and local people. Also the traditions from the culture in the countries we visit. And occasionally a bit of history.
My passion for motorcycles came later.
When I was 15, I started my part-time job at a motorcycle clothing store. From then on, I started to get the itch. But, after sitting on the back of Oscar's bike a couple of times during our trips to Germany, it didn't take long before I started taking driving lessons myself. Immediately after getting my driver's license, I bought my first motorcycle, a Suzuki SV650 N (2002) . In the meantime, this faithful two-wheeler has been converted into our trackbike. On the street, I now ride a Suzuki SV650X (2018).
